My Story

May 13, 2012 Chengdu, China

From a very early age, friends and family asked Danny Spungen, “why do you collect so many different things?” The answer was simply, “Why Not!”  Danny likes to think that most people have a passion for collecting “something” but they might not realize they are actually collecting.

As a youngster, Danny collected a variety of items including rocks & minerals, ball bearings, cameras, lots of photographs, old family documents, baseball cards, stamps and coins.

From 1977 to 1982, Danny sold stamps and coins for Minkus Publishing (NY) at their concessions in the Skokie and Chicago Illinois Marshall Field’s department stores. Those great days led him to where he is today!

As Danny’s father did with him, in an effort to generate more quality time with his son (and teach some business skills), Why Not Collectibles was conceived in 2006.  As Danny’s children matured and sharpened their life skills, Danny went through a series life changing (business) experiences himself.   With an instinct in networking skills, Danny was well-known as a big collector of “people and things” and the unexpected challenges helped create an incredible opportunity to explore different interests.  In a very short time between alongside with two of his greatest friends, Danny reached the top of China modern coin collecting, specializing in China’s yearly panda bear series coins.     In May 2012, Danny was a keynote speaker at the 30th Anniversary Panda Symposium in Shanghai.  At the same time he enjoyed learning “a little bit about a lot things” like prototype hot wheels, comic books old toys and collecting Swarovski crystal animals for his daughter.

Maybe the biggest “collecting changing” experience came in June 2007 when Danny purchased a world famous Holocaust philatelic collection.  This led to a journey that Danny remains on today, less of being a collector and more of being a “facilitator” in the educational field, using Holocaust artifacts as tools for exposing students to the breakdown of humanity that took place during the WWII era.  Yes, Danny always holds out hope that seeds will be planted in the hearts and minds of the students to become future collectors!

We welcome you to our website!  We are very happy to say that we met some great people on our collecting journeys.  In fact, the website was created as a place for visitors to learn about various collectibles in more depth than just a “click, bid and buy” experience.  Take your time, read the detailed summaries and research material that accompany many items.  a main goal is to inspire you to collect whatever creates a passion for you.

We know you will enjoy what we have to offer online and offline, it’s just a matter of time! Until then, please do not hesitate to contact us with your inquiries.
